  • The Competition simulates the procedures of complaints to the European Court of Human Rights. It is named after Helga Pederson, a Danish judge, who was the first female judge to be appointed to the European Court of Human Rights.

  • The Competition is a simulated hearing of the WTO (World Trade Organisation) dispute settlement system. It is named after John Howard Jackson for his contributions to the international trading system.

  • ELSA Delegations provide an opportunity to gain a legal knowledge in specific topics you would otherwise not know about. They provide an insight into the workings of international organisations and provide an opportunity to meet and connect with leading lawyers and diplomats in the field.

  • ELSA Traineeships provide aspiring young lawyers with legal work experience. The partnering practices span a number of jurisdictions. These traineeships have varying durations, but each and every one of them will be an enriching experience. Applications open twice yearly in Autumn and Spring.

  • ELSA Law Schools take place twice yearly, in Summer and Winter, and provide complex legal courses, which include workshops, lectures and similar activities, in addition to a social calendar, at a range of universities across Europe, specialising in a range of legal areas.

  • ELSA runs a Law Review, which offers students the opportunity to get peer-reviewed and published. The ELSA Law Review has also previously partnered with LexisNexis to do an annual essay competition on the subject of the Rule of Law.

  • ELSA has run a variety of legal research groups on a variety of different topics, which are run on both a national and international level. ELSA partners with leading experts and institutions in the field to make sure the research groups provide rewarding experiences.

ELSA International Opportunities

  • COMMOOT, which has been organised by ELSA UK several times, now, is a commercial law moot featuring participants both from the UK and abroad. Every year it has run, the Competition has focused on a different area within commercial law, for example, transportation, financial contracts or intellectual property.

  • Criminis is a Criminal Law Moot Court Competition organised by ELSA UK, and hosted in its first edition in partnership with Inner Temple. It immerses participants in a simulated criminal litigation scenario that could cover anything within the bounds of criminal law, from search and secure to due process rights.

ELSA United Kingdom Opportunities

ELSA UK is a national branch of ELSA International. ELSA UK organises their own events and opportunities and attends the International Council Meeting to represent the UK in the ELSA Network.
